2 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee & Canopy Walk Safari in Rwanda. Join Wild Planet on an unforgettable 2-day adventure to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest montane rainforests. Located in southwestern Rwanda, bordering Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nyungwe is believed to be one of the sources of the Nile due to its network of rivers that flow into the Lake Victoria basin.
Nyungwe is one of Rwanda’s three national parks and covers approximately 970 square kilometers of dense rainforest. The ecosystem thrives alongside the dramatic landscapes of Lake Kivu, creating breathtaking scenery throughout the region.
The forest shelters over 400 chimpanzees and 12 other primate species, including colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, as well as forest buffaloes and antelopes. During this safari, Wild Planet also takes you on a thrilling canopy walk—one of the most exciting adventures in East Africa. Suspended 45 feet above the forest floor, the canopy bridge offers spectacular aerial views and opportunities to spot wildlife from above (though it may feel intense for guests with a fear of heights).
This safari starts and ends in Kigali and runs throughout the year.
Your Wild Planet driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali and transfer you to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Enjoy a scenic 5-hour drive southward through Rwanda’s rolling hills, with an en-route lunch in Butare.
Upon arrival in Nyungwe in the afternoon, head straight to the park for the thrilling canopy walk. Cross the suspended bridge high above the forest floor and enjoy panoramic views of the lush rainforest while spotting birds and primates.
After the adventure, check in at your hotel, relax, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in Nyungwe.
