Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick-up in Kigali, Visit Genocide Memorial and Transfer to Bwindi, Uganda

Your safari begins with a morning pickup from your Kigali hotel or the international airport. Meet your friendly, professional driver-guide who will accompany you throughout the journey.

Before leaving Kigali, you’ll visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving and educational experience that offers insight into Rwanda’s history and the country’s powerful journey of reconciliation and recovery.

Afterward, enjoy a scenic drive toward the Uganda border. Through the Katuna border you’ll cross into Uganda and continue into the beautiful highlands of southwestern Uganda, known as the "Switzerland of Africa," eventually arriving at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park—home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

After an early breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing on gorilla trekking rules, safety protocols, and the ecology of the forest.

You’ll then embark on a once-in-a-lifetime trek through dense rainforest terrain, guided by experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Depending on the gorillas’ location, the trek can last 2–6 hours, but once you find them, you’ll spend a magical 1 hour observing their interactions, feeding, and family dynamics just meters away.

After trekking, return to the lodge for a warm lunch and time to relax, with the rest of the day at leisure.

Accommodation: Bakiga Lodge

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Note: Gorilla trekking requires moderate physical fitness and is conducted in small groups of 8 to ensure minimal disturbance to the animals.

Day 3: Morning at Leisure – Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Enjoy a slow morning with breakfast overlooking the misty forest. Afterwards, you’ll drive to nearby Lake Bunyonyi, a peaceful retreat surrounded by terraced hills and scattered islands. The lake is free of bilharzia and crocodiles, making it ideal for swimming and relaxation.

Upon arrival, check into your eco-friendly lakeside lodge. Enjoy the tranquil setting, with optional activities like canoeing, swimming, or just soaking in the panoramic views.

Accommodation: Bunyonyi Eco Resort

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Lake Bunyonyi Boat Cruise and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park with Evening Game Drive

Start the day with a guided boat cruise on Lake Bunyonyi, visiting key islands such as Punishment Island, known for its haunting folklore, and Bwama Island, once home to a leper colony. The guide will share fascinating stories about the lake’s history and local culture.

Later, you’ll depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most visited game reserve. As you enter the park, you’ll go on an evening game drive, a perfect time to see elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and if lucky, lions.

Accommodation: Irungu Safari Lodge

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Safari

Wake up early for a sunrise game drive in the Kasenyi Plains, a hot spot for predator-prey interactions. Expect to see Uganda kobs, warthogs, elephants, buffalo, and potentially lions and leopards.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, famous for its large populations of hippos, crocodiles, and a wide range of birds including kingfishers, pelicans, and African fish eagles.

Day 6: Transfer to Kibale and Afternoon Chimpanzee Trekking

After breakfast, transfer northward to Kibale Forest National Park, often referred to as the "primate capital of the world." In the afternoon, you’ll join a chimpanzee trekking excursion. Follow experienced rangers deep into the forest to track habituated chimp families. Watch them swing, play, and forage just a few meters away—an energetic contrast to the more reserved gorillas.

Accommodation: Kibale Bweza Lodge

Day 7: Transfer to Murchison Falls and Visit Top of the Falls

This is a travel day, but one filled with scenic landscapes. You’ll make your way north to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest national park.

Before heading to your lodge, stop at the Top of Murchison Falls, where the Nile is violently squeezed through a 7-meter gorge, crashing down with spectacular force. It’s a truly unforgettable natural wonder.

Accommodation: Hornbill Bush Lodge

Day 8: Game Drive and Nile Boat Safari

Begin with a sunrise game drive on the northern side of the park, a vast savannah landscape teeming with giraffes, lions, elephants, antelope, and occasionally leopards.

After lunch, enjoy a boat safari up the Nile River toward the base of Murchison Falls. This cruise is great for spotting crocodiles, hippos, and many birds, including the elusive shoebill stork if you're lucky.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 9: Rhino Tracking at Ziwa and Transfer to Entebbe

After breakfast, depart for Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda to see rhinos in the wild. With a ranger, track these majestic animals on foot in their protected reserve—an exciting and safe experience that completes the “Big Five” for your safari.

Later, continue to Entebbe, where you’ll check into your beachfront lodge for a final relaxing night near Lake Victoria.
