Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your safari guide for a short briefing. You’ll then enjoy a scenic transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park approx. 2–3 hours, passing through Rwanda’s famous rolling green hills. On arrival, check in at your lodge, have lunch, and spend the rest of the day relaxing or enjoying an optional village walk. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. Together with rangers, you’ll hike through the lush rainforest to track one of the habituated gorilla families. Once located, you will spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural environment. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the evening, you can enjoy a guided nature walk or cultural visit. Dinner and overnight at Isange Lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Evening Game Drive

After breakfast, set off on a transfer from Volcanoes to Akagera National Park (approx. 5–6 hours). Enjoy scenic views and stop for lunch en route. On arrival, check in at your lodge. Later in the afternoon, embark on your first evening game drive in Akagera, where you might spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, and antelopes. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park

After an early breakfast, head out for a full-day game drive in Akagera National Park. This is Rwanda’s only Big Five park, home to lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos. You’ll also encounter hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife around Lake Ihema. Stop for a picnic lunch in the park before continuing the drive through diverse savannah and woodland landscapes. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive and Transfer Back to Kigali

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast, then take a morning game drive for one last chance to spot Rwanda’s incredible wildlife. Afterward, begin your transfer from Akagera National Park back to Kigali (approx. 3–4 hours). Depending on your flight schedule, you may visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or local craft markets before drop-off at Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your safari.
